March 9th - Internet Doomsday?
In 2011 half a million in the United States were infected with a virus called DNSChanger Trojan. The Trojan caused web surfers to be sent to fraudulent website by changing the DNS settings on compromised computers. When the FBI finally captured this group, they were not able to shut down the rogue DNS servers because everyone infected would instantly be cut off from the internet.
The FBI chose an alternate strategy which involved a court order allowing them to replace the rogue DNS servers with stand-ins so that all the systems wouldn't get shut down without warning. This bided time to get the word out about the possible fraudulent DNS settings with a deadline of March 9th.
Well, now that we are approaching March, its time to question whether you are going to be effected.
