March 9th - Internet Doomsday?

Written by CyberTek Admin.

In 2011 half a million in the United States were infected with a virus called DNSChanger Trojan. The Trojan caused web surfers to be sent to fraudulent website by changing the DNS settings on compromised computers. When the FBI finally captured this group, they were not able to shut down the rogue DNS servers because everyone infected would instantly be cut off from the internet.

The FBI chose an alternate strategy which involved a court order allowing them to replace the rogue DNS servers with stand-ins so that all the systems wouldn't get shut down without warning. This bided time to get the word out about the possible fraudulent DNS settings with a deadline of March 9th.

Well, now that we are approaching March, its time to question whether you are going to be effected.

Technical Services Testimonials

Cybertek Engineering has been a great partner to the YMCA of Southern Indiana. As our Y grew from a single branch to having two facilities in Clark and Floyd Counties, Cybertek was right there with us to expand our network. In any growth process, there are always bumps in the road, but their technicians stayed focused on getting and keeping our system online. With the expansion to two facilities, the demand of maintaining a network of that size grew to be too much for me to handle in house. David approached me with a managed services option to maintain all of our servers and PCs for an affordable monthly contract fee. This also allowed our staff to contact Cybertek directly with issues allowing me to spend more time on actual YMCA business. I am kept in the loop through their ticketing process which lets me keep an eye on all projects that are going on without being directly involved.

We have been lucky to have a primary technician who handles most of our calls. He has become very familiar with, not only our system, but has gotten to know our employees as well. It is like having an IT professional on staff without the full time salary. This solution has been great for us as a non-profit organization trying to maintain low administrative costs.

I contacted CyberTek after my external hard drive crashed. I had a lot of important data that needed recovered. They responded quickly. Within 2 days, they had me set up with a brand new external hard drive with all of my data they had recovered! I was so relieved! I would definitely use them again!

“Cybertek saved the day for the Arts Council. Our USB drive failed with vital information for a grant that was due the next day. They worked all day and retrieved our information and were a pleasure to work with under a stressful situation. I highly recommend them for all of your tech needs!”

We began using Cybertek several months ago for our computer needs. Cybertek and our assigned network engineer, John Hoyer, has been an asset to our company. On his initial visit, he got a feel for our business, and our concerns regarding our current operations. He explained and suggested several changes that would make our computer operations more efficient and better suited to our company’s specific needs.

As in most businesses these days, it’s nearly impossible to function without the use of our computers, so Cybertek’s quick response time to questions and problems is important and appreciated.
